A team from Stanford University Fertiloo developed an affordable compost latrine that provides Kenyan farmers with access to improved sanitation while offering a safe and easy way to contain their human waste and use it as fertilizerfor crops.

Designed to cost under $100, the Fertiloo is an out of the box solution that up to 10 people can use immediately upon purchase and fulfill their annual fertilizer needs after six months. Safely collecting and reusing human waste can help families save $100-$200 (20% of their annual income) per year currently spent on man- made fertilizer and top soil. Moreover, improved sanitation will reduce family health expenses and improve quality of life.
